12/30/2002: Entertaining myself

These last few days feel as if they've all somehow morphed into one long one. This is probably because we have spent a majority of the past 100 hours or so camped out in front of the television and our new Playstation 2, playing Resident Evil: Code Veronica. We have discovered that it helps if you start over from the beginning and remember to hang on to the stupid fire extinguisher. Sheesh.

Actually, it hasn't all been sloth. Saturday afternoon I joined some friends and we went ice skating. I skated for a full hour and didn't fall down once. I'm inordinately proud of this fact. Unfortunately the rental skates were awfully stiff and so now my poor calves are all bruised and sore, even days after. Next time I think I need to wear extremely thick socks.

Sunday's bit of excitement had to do with the library. Okay, the first bit of excitement was the 'oh by the way you're the liturgist' at church, but being a liturgist is no big deal, especially since none of the readings this week had any of those lovely biblical names that are next to impossible to pronounce. Plus the choir director had recorded the cantata from the previous week and burned a whole stack of CD's which he then proceeded to pass out to all of us who participated. Richard and I were more than a bit apprehensive about listening to it, since we remembered the pain of listening to the recorded concert earlier in the year, but to our surprise, we didn't sound half bad. I mean, seriously. For an amateur choir and instrument ensemble, we were pretty darn good. Woo!

The second bit of excitement occurred when I logged onto the website for the library to renew all the books that we already knew were probably overdue, and discovered that I could no longer renew them online because they were so overdue they were marked as lost. Which meant that I also was facing the shock of suddenly owing something like $200 to the Solano County library system. Yeek!

Needless to say Richard and I hastily rounded up all the books and zipped off to the library to return them all, using our best sheepish grins so that the end result was a much lower sum for just plain old overdue fines.

And while we were there, I loaded up on even more books, including a few dozen by Christopher Stasheff (one entire series and as much as I could of a second one). I figure these will at least keep me busy through the rest of the week – when we're not camped out in the living room playing video games, that is.

Tis the season for Holidailies!
