When my mom sent me the info about this, I knew we needed to go. It was scheduled at the last minute, and noon on a Thursday afternoon is rather a hard time for most people to go anywhere, especially with very little notice. But considering the reason, I knew I had to be there, if only to add to the numbers of people willing to stand up for something they believe in.

Good for you!
I’m so dense, it took me until recently to connect all the dots and figure out why my grandfather (and occasionally my grandmother, too) has been on such a rage the last few years about how the “homosexuals are trying to take over everything.” See, he’s a retired UMC minister, still goes to the conference in VA, and certainly goes to church in NC where he lives. But whenever I’ve had an opportunity to spend time with him, which is usually some holiday dinner – especially since I live so far away now – somehow, he always gets his knickers in a twist and goes off on a rant about how the homosexuals are trying to take over the world, how they’re trying to take credit for all the arts and stuff (um, grandfather…oh, never mind…). And really, we all just sit there quietly, and let him say his piece, but it’s uncomfortable for nearly everyone else there, at the very least because we know how he dotes on his grandson Will…who is gay. But we don’t say anything, because certainly at this point, we’re not going to change grandfather’s mind about anything. So, you know, family gatherings are just that much more special (feh).
But he’s been doing this for at least 7 or 8 years now, and I guess since I haven’t been in a UMC in at least that long, I didn’t really make the connection. But good for you, for standing up for what is not necessarily easy, but is right. *cheer*
